SLIDING DOOR: INTRODUCTION

If you’re reading this article, it’s probably because you need to save space in your home. Fortunately, there are now many alternatives to the classic swing door, increasingly customizable and with a design. In fact, there are many cases in which space-saving doors are chosen precisely for their aesthetic characteristics. Furthermore, this type of solution is increasingly appreciated for its modern and functional features.

Moreover, as we know, the way we conceive of the home has changed, which is no longer understood as a separate set of rooms but rather as an open space. Let’s think about the kitchen or the living room: the door is almost always open and consequently a traditional door, in these cases, would be an unnecessary obstacle.

So, whether our problem is due to lack of space or an aesthetic choice, there are now doors capable of satisfying our needs.

The most effective solution is represented by sliding doors, which come in two types of space-saving doors: pocket sliding doors and visible sliding doors.

DISAPPEARING SLIDING DOOR (INSIDE THE WALL)

The internal sliding door is a pocket door because it disappears into the wall. To achieve this, therefore, a masonry intervention is necessary to insert a counterframe that allows the door to move inside the wall.

This type of door allows for a high degree of customization since there are almost infinite models to choose from. For example, you can opt for glass (transparent, colored, opaque), PVC, or wood solutions, or you can even decide to cover the door with a particular wallpaper.

Another solution is to integrate the door perfectly with the wall, so much so that it is almost invisible. This is the so-called flush-to-the-wall sliding door and the camouflage effect is given by the use of the same surface finish as the wall. The effect is one of maximum continuity and fluidity between one environment and another.

The sliding pocket door solution is certainly the most expensive since it involves the cost of work on the masonry. You can therefore easily go from an average of 500 euros up to 1500-200 euros. Obviously the cost will also depend on the type of material chosen.

SLIDING DOOR (EXTERIOR WALL)

External sliding doors represent a less invasive solution (no masonry work is required) and are easy to install, but at the same time more voluminous. However, this bulkiness does not translate into “unsightly” nowadays, as there are several design solutions to cover the counterframe, which in this case, obviously, will be external.

Furthermore, it is sometimes a forced choice if you want a sliding door, since some walls are not suitable for creating the space inside the wall. For some, the space occupied by the door is considered an obstacle because it will prevent it from being used to accommodate furniture, for example. For us, choosing the right door in line with the style of the house is simply a plus, an addition of style.

Here too, costs vary based on the material chosen and can range from just over 100 euros for simple doors, perhaps a single door, up to 1000 euros for doors made of more valuable materials.
